Amina’s Journey Begins: From Uncertainty to Opportunity

When Amina completed high school in a small town outside Kisumu, her future looked uncertain. With no access to university education and no formal job prospects, she was left to navigate a challenging job market on her own. Like many young Kenyans, Amina faced the harsh reality that employment opportunities often depend on connections or costly credentials neither of which she had.

That’s when she discovered Hillock Global Enterprise through a community outreach session organized in her area. Intrigued by the promise of digital skills training and support for young people without degrees, she signed up and everything changed.

Empowering Youth with Digital Tools and Training

Hillock Global’s approach stood out. Instead of one-size-fits-all training, Amina was enrolled in a program tailored to her interests in social media, design, and online work. The course covered basic computer skills, digital marketing, content creation, and freelance platforms practical tools that could generate real income.

“I didn’t know I could earn money online until I joined Hillock. I thought only people with big offices and degrees could work with clients,” Amina says.

Through mentorship, group sessions, and hands-on learning, Amina gradually built her confidence and portfolio. By the end of the 3-month training, she had secured her first online gig as a virtual assistant for a Nairobi-based entrepreneur.

From Learner to Earner: Building a Sustainable Income

Today, Amina works remotely as a freelancer in administrative support and digital marketing, serving clients in Kenya and beyond. She’s even started mentoring younger girls in her neighborhood who are curious about digital work. Her income allows her to support her younger siblings’ education, and she recently began saving to open her own small business.

Amina’s success is not unique it reflects the broader mission of Hillock Global: to equip underserved youth, especially young women, with marketable digital skills that lead to dignified, sustainable livelihoods.

Breaking Barriers Through Inclusion and Access

At Hillock, we understand that youth potential is everywhere but opportunity is not. That’s why we focus on building digital bridges to employment, especially in rural and marginalized communities. Our work is anchored in SDG 8, which promotes inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full employment, and decent work for all.
